281. ΤΟ ΣΚΑΚΙ ΤΟΥ ΠΟΣΕΙΔΩΝΑ (Poseidon's chessboard)

     Παίζω σκάκι από μικρός. Πάντα ήθελα να φτιάξω την δική μου σκακιέρα. Την ιδέα μου έδωσαν τα όστρακα.
     Ξεχώρισα τα μικρόσωμα για στρατιώτες, ίδια αλλά μεγαλύτερα για Αξιωματικούς, φανταχτερά για Βασιλείς-Βασίλισσες, στρογγυλά για Πύργους και μακρόστενα για Ίππους.
     Ο διαχωρισμός τους σε μαύρα-άσπρα πιόνια έγινε με τα βότσαλα-βάσεις στο αντίστοιχο χρώμα.
     Η βάση της σκακιέρας έπρεπε να είναι με ανάλογα υλικά. Σε κόντρα πλακέ θαλάσσης, κόλλησα τετράγωνα με άμμο λευκή Αιγίνης και μαύρη Σαντορίνης.
     Την αφιέρωσα στον...Ποσειδώνα!

 

     I have been playing  chess since I was a boy. I always wanted to make my own chessboard. To this end, I was inspired by the shells. I picked small sized shells for the pawns, bigger for the Bishops, round for the Towers, thin for the Horses and fancy for the Queens and the Kings.

      The distinction between blacks and whites was made through the respectively colored pebbles used for their base.

     The board had to be made from sea-born material. Therefore, I used white sand from the Aegina Island and black sand from the Santorini Island.

     I devoted my chessboard to Poseidon, of course…
